Winery was an activity lead mostly by Greeks until 1925.
Turks who used to only grow grapes, started after that time to engage in winery.
After transition to the mechanical systems in 1956, winery started to develop.
1960-80 were the most prolific years of the wine production and the number of the wine factories increased to 13.
After 1980, winery regressed and many wine factories were closed.
The year 1998 was a year of growth with the support of the government to wine factories that modernized and started to produce wines of better quality.
With growing new kinds of wine grapes in the island, winery entered a development process in the last years.
There are 6 factories in the island. According to their date of foundation successively: Yunatçılar (Çamlıbağ) 1925, Ataol 1927, Talay 1948, Corvus 2002, Gülerada 2008, Amadeus 2010.
